- Northern New England Junior Science & Humanities Symposium - will take place at the University of New Hampshire, March 27-28, 2008. The Northern New England Regional Junior Science and Humanities Symposium is a day and a half meeting of selected high school students and their teachers in which the students compete for a variety of cash awards and scholarships by presenting the results of their scientific investigations. Students who make presentations at the Regional Syumposium have an opportunity to win scholarships and cash awards from $200 to $2000. There are no registration fees for this event. - The Watershed Watch program is actively seeking undeclared freshmen for its fun and exciting 2008-2009 two course program. These courses put the student in charge of their own scientific investigation (with a faculty member to assist them) on some aspect of watershed ecology. - The Transforming Earth System Science Education (TESSE) program is actively seeking undergraduate students interested in teaching science at the middle and/or high school level. TESSE provides research experience and training in Earth systems science education, an area rapidly growing in school curricula and societal relevance. TESSE offers both introductory advanced courses to match individual’s needs.

The Leitzel Center hosted a luncheon, Tuesday, May 15, 2007, for UNH faculty and staff who have been working with Elizabeth City State University. Karen Graham, Director, presented a slide show summarizing the history of the UNH/ECSU partnership. Projects have been ongoing with ECSU since the initial relationship began in 2001. The event brought faculty and staff from UNH together to discuss their experiences and strategize for building future partnerships. - S.M.A.R.T. Turns Seventeen!
- Girls Connect - The UNH Robotics Club and FIRST Place are looking for girls between the ages of 8 and 15 to participate in their upcoming Girls Connect workshops. Girls Connect is an intense one-day all-girl introduction to FIRST LEGO League and the FIRST Vex Challenge.
FIRST LEGO League (8-14 years old): Students work alongside professional engineers and high school and college role models to learn how to build and program a robot using LEGO NXT Kits. It is our hope that these students will continue their involvement by joining FIRST LEGO League teams in the fall.
FIRST Vex Challenge (12-15 years old): Students work alongside professional engineers and college role models to build and program a robot using the Vex Robotics Design System. It is our hope that these students will continue their involvement by joining FIRST Vex Challenge teams in the fall.
